In the prospecting and mining industries for gold ore and other minerals, it is necessary to carry out chemical quantitative analysis on the mined samples to determine the content of specific ingredient in the ore, so as to draw the distribution map of mineral deposits. The process is as follows: put the ore sample and the flux into a refractory container (crucible), and send them together into the sample melting furnace to heat to 900-1250°C to melt the ore sample to a liquid condition to make it fully homogenized, and then remove the crucible from the melting furnace, pour the melted sample into the cupel to cool and solidify, and the chemical analysis can be carried out after the sample is completely cooled. In this process, if the set specific ingredients are detected in the ore sample, the crucible can only be used once and must be disposed to avoid cross-contamination, otherwise it can be re-used; the cupel is disposable after one use.

According to the use conditions of the crucible and cupel in the melting process of the above ore samples, the requirement for the crucible is to have both strong corrosion resistance and good thermal shock resistance, and the requirement for the cupel is to not crack or contaminate the molten sample when contacting with the high-temperature melt. The GEA cordierite-fused silica composite material jointly developed by Trend and Australian partner, Rojan Advanced Ceramics Pty, is used for the manufacture of crucibles, and its service life is more than 2 times that of traditional clay crucibles and zirconia contained crucibles, and which greatly reduces the cost of prospecting and analysis. This product has been widely used by internationally renowned testing and analysis laboratories in Australia, Canada, South Africa, Indonesia, Russia and other places. GEC is a specially developed cupel material for use with crucibles. In addition, Trend has also developed GMA grade silicon carbide melting furnace lining and muffle product, combined with Trend multi-variety kiln furniture, it can provide one-stop thermal material solution for testing laboratories.
